The Republic of India is roughly 1.27 million square miles. It is about one-third the size of the U.S.
India Varies from Himalayas to flat river valleys to desserts in the west. It has 28 states and 7 union territories. When looking for Natural resources in India you can find coal, iron ore, manganese, mica, bauxite, chromite, thorium, limestone, barite, titanium ore, diamonds, and crude oil.
Nearly 1.17 billion people live in India. Only China has a larger population. At only 2.4% of the worlds land, it holds 15% of the worlds population. I0n social society they live in castes, and are separated by religion and language. They have 18 official languages. It is about 81% Hindu but they have 138 million Muslims living in India. India has one of the world's largest Muslim populations. India gained its Independence on August 15, 1957. They established a constitution on January 26, 1950.
India is a country with many diverse cultures, so it is interesting to me that the society of India as a whole is broken into castes. I am curious to know if the castes are determined by faith, wealth, or family name. I would assume that, because of the many religions and nationalities in India, the castes have some relation to the faith each family practices. I think I will research that a little further, though, because I would like to know who is considered prominent in this nation.
ReplyDeleteI found some time to go research the caste system a little bit, and I found out that the castes are determined by lineage, or clan of an individual. I found that there are four main castes, and that the government has imposed laws to eliminate prejiduce and crime based on social caste. Lastly, the caste system is actually a Hindu tradition, but the Muslims also participate a lot in the caste system.
ReplyDeleteIndia is a country different from all other country's due to its "Unity in Diversity". India has people from all over the place living in the country over one government. They have 18 official languages and many different religions. I think that India's government trying to make everyone satisfied with how the country is, would be an issue. India's diversity may be causing some problems within the government.
